Rochester, N.Y. — Major changes will take place for U.S. travelers next year.
As of May 7, 2025, travelers will need to get a Real ID to board all domestic flights or enter certain federal buildings.
Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo held a press conference on Tuesday at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport to urge travelers to have the proper IDs before the deadline.
"There are a lot of different ways for you to get the Real ID," said Romeo. "First, look at your ID right now. If it has a star or a flag on it, you're good and you don't need to do anything else. If you have a passport at home, you are also good. If you don't have any of those things, you do need to go to the DMV and make an appointment to get that Real ID. "
Enhanced IDs are also accepted to get on a domestic flight and are even accepted to cross the U.S. border.
